Early Reading and Montessori Education
Presented by Lillian Kroenke
We know that modern brain research has validated the accuracy of many of Dr. Montessori’s observations of the young child from birth to six. Now we are learning that research has identified additional capabilities. How does this fit with Montessori practice. Montessorians are committed to following the child and providing programs that support the child’s potential development. I will present and review a current program, Your Baby Can Read!® , created by an educator and scientist, which seems to fit the bill.
Infant Toddler Cognition and Brain Development
Presented by Bill Kroenke
Current brain research on young infants relies on advanced testing protocols to study their response to external stimuli. I will review the latest brain research with emphasis on the ability of infants to have a sense of numbers and to answer the question as to whether there is a sensitive period for numbers analogous to the sensitive periods for language and music development. I will relate Montessori education to the latest concepts resulting from what is currently known about infant’s cognitive abilities. Finally, I will show once again that Dr. Montessori was well ahead of her time and briefly touch on the implication of the current brain research to future Montessori programs.
The Registration Fee of $15.00 includes lunch.
